I don’t know if this a designer looking for a “problem” to solve or if there really are enough people complaining about cameras to make this a legitimate concern.

I think it’s more of a situation where a device has pretty much hit maturity in design and they are trying to find something, anything, to stay competitive. And to get people to trade in perfectly good, working two-year-old phones for the latest one. Personally, I like a phone that is paid off.

My boys are using our old SEs, and my wife and I each have a 6S. I bought mine used, and it’s kind of a POS (shitty screen, obviously replaced home button). But I see no reason to put any money into it.

I just made my son replaced the battery on his phone when it quit charging properly. He was more than a little disappointed that he wouldn’t be getting a new phone.

My daughter just broke her screen for the third time. I won’t let her use her savings to get an iPhone XR until she shows she can keep a phone intact.
I changed her screen last time with a $17 kit I bought from Amazon. I can do it again. And make her pay for it.
